Bridging Research and Policy: Advancing the Fight Against Antimicrobial Resistance Through Cross-Sector Collaboration
A New Milestone in My Research Journey I am honored to share that I have been awarded the Academy of Medical Sciences Cross-Sector Experience Award, delivered in partnership with the University of Leeds and The One Health Trust. This prestigious opportunity marks an exciting new chapter in my professional journey, enabling me to expand my impact beyond academic research and into the policy sector. Researching Antimicrobial Resistance and Environmental Health Over the years, my research has focused on critical global health challenges, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR), microbiomes, and environmental health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), particularly Bangladesh and India. These interconnected issues have significant implications for public health, healthcare systems, and sustainable development. While generating high-quality scientific evidence remains fundamental, translating research findings into practical policies and interventions is equally essential to create meaningful and lasting change. Expanding Beyond Academia This award offers a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience within the policy landscape through collaboration with The One Health Trust. By working closely with experts operating at the science-policy interface, I look forward to developing new skills in policy translation, understanding evidence-informed decision-making, and exploring how scientific research can more effectively support public health action. Strengthening the Pathway from Evidence to Impact I was particularly encouraged by the selection panel’s recognition of the strong potential for translating my research into policy impact. As my work increasingly examines the intersections between antimicrobial resistance, environmental change, and global health, this experience will help strengthen the pathway from scientific discovery to real-world implementation. Bridging the gap between research and policy is critical for addressing complex health challenges, especially in resource-constrained settings where evidence-based interventions can significantly improve outcomes. Looking Ahead I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Academy of Medical Sciences, the University of Leeds, The One Health Trust, and Dr. Erta Kalanxhi for their support and confidence in my work. I am excited to embark on this new journey, learn from colleagues working at the forefront of science and policy, and contribute to advancing evidence-driven solutions for some of today’s most pressing global health challenges.
